Salem to The Orchard Apartments in Roanoke

We have finally moved out of Salem and into our apartment in Roanoke! Actually we decided it wasn't a bad thing. Moving from a house and staying in a one room motel room for 41 days, with 2 cats, the cats "stuff", all our things we needed, winter clothes, electronics etc. etc. etc. Then moving into a three bedroom, two bathroom apartment seemed like a very large space! And a washer and dryer, a stove and refrigerator, our 55 inch TV looked like a drive-in. What luxuries! Also we were very sick of eating every meal in a restaurant! Breakfast was provided every day at the motel that was actually good, great biscuits!

It really wasn't that bad! We had time to just relax after all the hectic time for us, working, selling our house in California, repairs on the house, expected and unexpected. Sorting through 30 years of accumulations, deciding what to give away, throw away or take with us. Selling the jeep, truck and cars. Laurie, our daughter had been living with us for 1.5 years, so we had her things all over the place.

We spent a lot of time at the library, read many books. The cats loved it in that small space, they slept with us and got a lot more attention from us than they were used to with both of us working full-time jobs. We shopped for new furniture, smaller, and more appropriate for an apartment, than what we had left in the house. Bedding, curtains etc. etc. etc. Also we weren't used to the very cold weather in January and that kept us inside a lot. Jim walked every morning around the neighborhood, sometimes for only a few minutes because of the cold weather. I walked too, but not so consistently.

I should mention the reason it took so long for us to move into the apartment was because of the location and view of the one we wanted, we had to wait for it to become available.
