Journey of Lewis & Clark, Overlooking River

Far more than just a typical interstate rest area, this stop along I-90 is part scenic overlook, part historic site, and part museum. The rest area's location on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River provides incredible views of the Valley below. It is also an official stop on the National Parks Service's Lewis and Clark Trail. There is a museum celebrating the journey of Lewis and Clark, including a replica 55 foot keelboat modeled after the one used during the exploration of the Missouri River.

Chicago City Tour & Dinner Cruise from Navy Pier

Today we are traveling to the "windy city" Chicago. Our luggage is to be left outside our room at 7 and we leave at 8 am. Breakfast and free Wi-Fi is included. I have great memories of Chicago when we attended a Trade Show in July 1987, it was a work trip for Jim, but mostly a vacation for me! I had such a great time! It only took us 28 years to return and we are only going to be here for one day, but I think we made the most of our time! The sun was shining and it wasn't hot and humid, that always makes me happy! We had a local guide that we met at Chicago's Rock N Roll McDonalds, that is a flagship McDonald's restaurant. It is one of the most famous McDonald's location in the world and has about three times the seating capacity of a standard McDonalds. There is a rock n roll exhibit and a small upstairs museum display. It reopened in 2005 for the 50th anniversary of the McDonald's franchise and (unbelievable!) Colin Powell and Elton John attended the celebration. We didn't eat there but checked it out. We found out, with our guide, and our coach driver, it was not an easy thing to maneuver a huge motor coach through the streets of Chicago on the very busy fourth of July weekend! There were many street closures due to the holiday events scheduled. Like the Taste of Chicago Food Festival, the world's largest outdoor food festival, in Grant Park, most areas of the park closed off. The Grateful Dead Concert, again one last time, at Soldier Field, Navy Pier Fireworks, Sox and Cubs games. But they did the best they could, under the circumstances. We still had a great day!
